Finished Video
The video was uploaded late as I had trouble uploading it onto youtube due to my internet crashing. The video says it is seven minutes long but the actual video finishes at 2.50 - youtube wouldn't upload it without the extra minutes (I think I may have saved the video wrong)
The video did not turn out how I wanted it to and I feel that if I had been able to find someone other than myself to act in it then I would have been able to produce a better quality video.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
- My music video is different to a conventional music video as, although it tells a narrative like most music videos, the lip syncing within my music video is not as conventional as instead of getting a male artist to lip sync the words (as they are sung my a male vocalist) or included a 'band' in the video, I have instead chosen to have the female actress lip sync the words as if she is mimicking what the vocalist is saying.
- I felt that by doing this I would be able to give my music video a unique look but also keep hold of some of the traditional conventions.
- Unlike most music video, my video is quiet disjointed in the story it tells and whilst this might make it hard for the audience to follow what is happening in the video i felt that it made the video more interesting than just using a simple narrative or contemporary video to fit the song.
- My music video is very different to the music video's I analysed in on my planning blog as they had quiet simple structures and story lines. I feel that my video is closer to that of Ed Sheeran's give me love as the story line jumps between lots of different locations and time frames.
I have used several different time frames within my video to make it more interesting for the audience. In order to show that some of the clips are meant to be in the past I have put them in extreme slow motion and put the clips in black and white and used the old film effect.
This use of different time frames also allows my video to fit with the tempo of the music that is in my music video, with some of the clips in slow motion to fit with longer drawn out notes and others clips being sped up in order to fit with faster parts of the song.
I used a variety of camera shots within my video with a lot of the beginning of the video being made up of close ups and medium close ups, whilst the shots nearer the end of the video are mainly long shots or extreme long shots of the girl walking through different locations.
Technologies that I used
I used a range of different technologies when creating my music video, both for editing and for filming and finally for the posting my video so that others could view it.
The main technologies that i used within my projects were the editing software:
- Adobe Premier Elements 13
- Photoshop
- Paint
I used these three programs because they were the best software for me to use to achieve the most professional finish for my video and the digipaks.
I used premiere elements to edit together my video as it provided me with a range of facilities and effects that would help make my video more interesting and appealing to the audience. Whilst i do not like how my video has turned out i do believe that this software allowed me to edited it smoothly and give it as professional look as I could.
Photoshop allowed me to edit and create my digipaks so that they linked in with my video and looked professional. I used features such as paint bucket and fade to get my layers to be the colour and shade i wanted and used other tools and shapes in order to recreate the design i wanted and make it into a physical product.
I used Blogger to create a running commentary of what i was doing for my video and to show my planning and evaluation for the project.
How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
- I believe that my ancillary texts and video are very clearly linked as they follow the same dark style theme and have clear links between footage that is shown in the actual video and the narrative from my music video.
- By using clips and stills from the video as well as photographs from my iPad (to show the relationship between the two characters) have allowed me to effectively link my music video with the ancillary texts, especially the magazine advert and the CD with are made up of a montage of clips and pictures that feature in the actual video.
- I feel that the use of dark colours and fading on the digipak means that it combines and links effectively with the video to tell the audience the mood of my video. I used dark colours and fading in both the video and the ancillary texts to show that the video is meant to be on a sad topic and that it is actually quiet a dark video as appose to a happier story line. However, because my narrative is cut up i feel that the audience may be confused about the actual story line of the video and therefore may not understand how the ancillary texts link into it.
- My finished video and ancillary texts are very different to my original planning. My ancillary texts don't look at all like the original drawings that i did as i felt that they did not have any clear links to the video so decided to go for a design that was possibly not as clever or difficult to achieve but would link more effectively to the video and the story line.
